The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is reporting another fatal hit-and-run on Interstate 10.

Shortly after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 Alabama State Troopers responded to a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on westbound I-10 near mile marker 62, which four miles west of the Alabama Welcome Center exit on the Florida-Alabama state line.

The pedestrian, identified as 46-year-old Jody Dean Thomas of Lapeer, Michigan, had previously been a passenger in a vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene; the driver of the other vehicle did not stop.

Last week, a Pensacola man was charged in the death of a Louisiana woman killed while walking on Interstate 10 at mile marker 43 east bound, one mile west of the Loxley/Bay Minette (Alabama 59/Gulf Shores Parkway) exit.

Alabama State Troopers arrested 48-year-old Ronald Milford Sims on Friday, Oct 19 in Bay Minette. He was booked into the Baldwin County jail on charges of felony leaving the scene of an accident, later released on $20,000 bond.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Maria Osorio of Gretna, Louisiana, was originally a passenger in a vehicle that had pulled onto the shoulder. According to the release, Osorio exited the vehicle and walked into the roadway where she was struck and killed by a vehicle that left the scene at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.

Troopers located a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche at a service station on Alabama 59 at County Road 64 believed to have been involved in the crash. Sims has been identified as the owner of the vehicle.

Loxley Police, Florida Highway Patrol and the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office were all instrumental in the arrest.
