DAPHNE, Ala. – The Admirals scored twice in the second half to defeat Indian Springs 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A Boys soccer playoffs. After the first 40 minutes ended nil-nil, Bayside’s Cody Smart dribbled through a maze of defenders to strike for a goal in the 67th minute of play. Trey Clements punched in the final goal with an assist from Joey Jones off a bicycle-kick interception by Sergi Cebrian-Claramunt at midfield.

“Our defense did a fine job all night,” said Bayside head coach Jamie Ferguson. “I was proud of how they repelled a very talented, well coached Indian Springs team. Our players kept the pressure up playing together, possessing the ball up the field and taking quality shots. But their (Indian Springs) keeper was amazing. He made some magnificent saves for them.”

The Admirals (23-2) face Westminster-Oak Mountain (17-2), May 10, 1:30 p.m. in semifinal play at the John Hunt Soccer Complex in Huntsville. The winner will play the winner of the Altamont (16-5-1) vs. West Morgan (20-2) match. That championship game for Class 1A-3A boys is set for Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m.
