BMPD drug investigation nets 20 arrests

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — A total of 20 suspects were arrested by the Bay Minette Police Department on various drug and other charges over the course of a three-week investigation.

According to a release issued Wednesday by BMPD Chief Al Tolbert, over the last three weeks, the department has conducted operations aimed at targeting drug dealers, drug users and areas known as hot spots within the city limits of Bay Minette.

In addition to 20 arrests, police seized two firearms and approximately $2,400 of suspected drug currency seized. Methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, marihuana and drug paraphernalia items such as scales, packaging material and items used to consume drugs were found during these arrest and investigations.

These arrests took place as the result of citizen complaints in areas where drug activity is known to occur. These enforcement efforts are ongoing and will continue.

“We want to thank the citizens for providing us information and tips to act on,” Tolbert said in the release. “This communication between law enforcement and citizens are vital in our crime fighting efforts. Among those arrested included:

• On March 22 Bryan Scott Kircharr was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and active warrants for domestic violence. This arrest was made during a traffic stop and warrant service.

• On March 26, Julie Hall Parker was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the release, Parker was found to be in possession of an amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia items used to consume methamphetamine. This arrest occurred during the investigation relating to a traffic stop. Parker has since bonded out of jail.

• On March 27, Madison Rae Richards was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the release, Richards was found to be in possession of an amount of marijuana and items used for smoking marijuana. This arrest was made while checking suspicious activity in a public parking area. Richards is free on bond since the arrest.

• On March 27, Brian Wesley Rogers was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude and numerous warrants with other agencies in the area. According to the release, Rogers was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marihuana and drug paraphernalia items used in the distribution of narcotics. Rogers remains in jail on a no bond due to other unrelated charges. Rogers lead officers on a lengthy foot pursuit during this arrest and warrant service.

• On March 28, Damian Tyrrell Adams was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the release, Adams was found to be in possession of an amount of marijuana and items used to smoke marijuana. Adams has since been released from jail on a $1,000 bond. Adams was the driver of a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. Subsequent investigation discovered that Adams was in possession of marijuana.

• On March 28, officers conducted an investigation at the Baldwin Motel on U.S. 31 South. During the investigation officers discovered approximately 14 grams of methamphetamine and over two ounces of high grade marijuana and drug paraphernalia items to indicate that drugs were distributed from the rooms. Candice Lanette Cox was arrested and charged with distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Approximately $600 cash was seized from Cox. Cox has since bonded out of jail. Teddy Dewayne Whatley was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Whatley remains in jail on a $33,500 bond. Thomas James Burnette was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, first degree. Burnette has since bonded out of jail.

• On March 31, Michalia Denae Brymer was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop. According to the release, Brymer was found to be in possession of an amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia items used to smoke marijuana. This arrest was the result of an investigation after a traffic stop of which Brymer was the driver of the vehicle. Brymer has since bonded out of jail on the listed charges.

• On April 2, Sheree Shantel Carter was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree, during a traffic. Carter was stopped for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop Carter was found to have active warrants for her arrest. During the arresting process officers found powder cocaine and marijuana. Carter also held numerous active warrants and is currently in jail on a $4,300 bond.

• On April 2, Leeanne Nicole Akins was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Akins was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. During the course of the investigation officers found methamphetamine. Akins also held active warrants with Bay Minette Police Department and other agencies in the area. Akins is currently in jail on a $20,000 bond.

• On April 3, Justin Obrien Moore was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Moore was the driver of a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. An investigation and search of car officers discovered methamphetamine, marihuana, drug paraphernalia items used to distribute narcotics and $1,800 cash was seized from within the vehicle. Moore has an extensive criminal history and has numerous drug related arrests. Moore recently bonded out of jail on the drug charges.

• On April 3, Tommy Lee Palmer was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and illegal prescription medication during an investigation related to a traffic stop. Officers found crack cocaine and prescription medication to which Palmer did not have a prescription to possess. Palmer has recently bonded out of jail on the listed charges.

• On April 3, Kendrick Montray Staples was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a pistol without a permit. During the course of a traffic stop officers found marijuana, items used to smoke marijuana and a loaded Cobra 380 caliber pistol.

• On April 3, Herbert Terrell Cosper II was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree; unlawful possession of prescription drugs, carrying a pistol without a permit, and tampering with physical evidence. During the course of a traffic stop, officers found marijuana, prescription drugs without a valid prescription from a physician, and loaded Walther 9MM pistol without a conceal carry permit. Cosper has since been released from jail on bond.

• On April 5, Jacob Lavoyd Lacey was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and attempting to elude. After officers conducted a traffic on a vehicle driven by Lacey, he attempted to flee on foot. Lacey was captured a short distance from the scene and taken into custody. Officers found marijuana and held numerous active warrants for his arrest by other agencies.

• On April 9, Jason Travis Lane and Albelardo A. Alaniz were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Lane and Alaniz were both occupants and driver of a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop officers discovered methamphetamine hidden within the vehicle. Both Lane and Alaniz were arrested and since have bonded out of jail. Picture or mug shot was unavailable for Alaniz.

• On April 10, Kierston Nicole Hadley was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, giving false Information to law enforcement, and a felony warrant for probation violation, distribution of a controlled substance. Hadley was an occupant of vehicle stopped at a traffic safety check point. During the inspection of the vehicle officers detected a strong odor of marijuana. During the search of the vehicle and occupants they found marijuana. Hadley is currently in jail on no bond for the probation violation.

• On April 11, Kayla Elizabeth Berlage was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Berlage was the driver of a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop, officers found opiate-related medication. Berlage is currently in jail on a $5,000 bond.
