ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- Baldwin County Sheriff deputies seized approximately 160 pounds of high-grade marijuana and arrested three suspects during a routine traffic stop Thursday, Jan. 25 on Interstate 10 east bound near the Wilcox Exit.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, Baldwin County Sheriff Deputies conducted a vehicle stop on a 2007 GMC Yukon on east bound Interstate 10 near mile marker 53 after observing a traffic violation.

The occupants of the vehicle, Victor Ivan Flores-Vasquez, 22, of Chaparral, New Mexico; Jose Ramone Guevara-Lopez, 25, of Sunland Park, New Mexico, and Adrian Francisco Perez, 24, of El Paso, Texas, stated they were in route to Florida from Houston.

“The occupants didn’t know the name of the town they were going to, and stated they had been driving for 18 hours,” according to a release issued Monday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Command. “None of the occupants possessed a valid driver’s license. During the investigation deputies noticed a strong odor of marijuana was emitting from inside the vehicle.”

During the encounter, deputies also recovered a loaded Walther CCP handgun that was thrown out of the window of the vehicle. Additional units arrived on scene and all three subjects were detained.

A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 160 pounds of high-grade marijuana wrapped in tape, cellophane and trash bags in the rear cargo area. The bags were comingled with clothing and other luggage.

The suspects were placed under arrest for drug trafficking and Guevara-Lopez was additionally charged with possession of a concealed weapon without a permit. All three were booked into the Baldwin County Correction’s Center and placed under a $300,000 bond.
