FOLEY, Ala. — Signing day is one of the biggest days in sports. The Foley Lions football team had two seniors, Chris Armstrong and Mahja Armstrong sign to play at the college level.
Both Chris and Mahja have made an impact on the field for the Foley Lions football program as well as develop a strong impact in the community and classroom head coach Tab Niblett mentioned at the press conference.
“I've had the pleasure of coaching them the past three years now, this is one of the rewarding parts of this job.”
Armstrong signed to play football with the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the Southern Conference. He was one of the most dynamic players in the region by playing multiple positions like safety, running back, linebacker and quarterback. Schools like The Citadel, South Alabama, and Troy were looking to sign him, but he felt called to go East Tennessee to bring them back to their winning seasons and rebuild the culture.
“They recruited me as nickel and safety. I’m not afraid to cover someone or come down and make a tackle. So, I'll just use what I've played and all other pieces to one position and excel from there."
Wide receiver Mahja Armstrong signed to play football with the Union College Bulldogs. He has generated a huge impact in the Lions’ passing game as a fast and dangerous slot receiver.
“They told me from a football standpoint, how much they needed a slot that could come in and contribute early,” he said. “And I told them that I can be that person.”
One of his best games was his four-reception touchdown performance against Mary G. Montgomery last season.
