2018 Local Summer Junior Golf Programs

Summer is here already and, once school lets out, area kids head off in a million different directions to enjoy their yearly vacation. Coastal Alabama is full of diversions like beaches, fishing, sports, and just hanging out with friends.

When I was growing up, we couldn’t wait for the sun to come up to play ball or head to the creek. Unfortunately, my grandkids, much like many others, have to be lured into the great outdoors. They would rather stay in the air conditioning and play video games all day than venture outside, too far away from the rewards of a well-stocked refrigerator. Hence the problem, what’s a parent going to do?

Cheer up! Golf just might be the answer. It’s a challenging sport that’s played by boys and girls and men and women from eight to eighty in every civilized country in the world. You can chase the little white ball with friends, family, or by yourself, and have a great time.

Most golfers never break one hundred, unless they use new math; but I’ve observed that often even the worst players have a memorable round just enjoying the sunshine, the beauty of the course, and the camaraderie that inevitably follows.

Golf is also a wonderful way to spend the day with your children. The first time I invited my grandsons to tag along they declared, “It was the best day ever!” I had to agree.

So take a little time this summer and sign your son or daughter or grandchild up for a golf camp or two. You might be surprised. It might be their “best day ever”, and I promise that’s a better feeling than a string of birdies.

Below are golf camp schedules from area links. A few were still working out the details and are marked TBA. Give them a call and ask for the schedule. If you didn’t see your favorite course listed, let them know that you would be interested in a Kids Golf Program in the future.
