Hayden Peacock named Junior Firefighter of the Year

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Hayden Peacock of Bay Minette was named the Junior Firefighter of the Year by the Baldwin County Fire Chiefs Association.

Peacock is a junior member of the White House Fork Volunteer Fire Department. The presentation was made by Tony Lovell, president of the Fire Chiefs Association.

Hayden was out fishing with his father, Jessie, on March 31 when a boater in distress call came. The two quickly joined the rescue and Hayden was instrumental in life-saving efforts that day.

“He (Hayden) entered the water along other rescuers and performed some advanced level victim aid,” wrote Lt. Ryan B. Bennett. “He loaded one victim into his own boat and transported him to cut down the response time for White House Fork and Crossroads VFD members.”

Bennett said Hayden did not seemed phased by the trauma at the scene and continued to assist with towing and trailering the crashed boats, securing property and helping to manage the scene.

“His actions and assistance were invaluable and were a credit to the fire service and the White House Fork VFD,” Bennett wrote. “He functioned like a veteran first responder and it is astonishing to consider he is only 18-years old.”

Hayden is a member of the 2018 graduating class of Baldwin County High School.
