Irwin wins again on PRCA circuit

LAWTON, Oklahoma — Robertsdale native Kyle Irwin is on a roll after winning his third PRCA competition of the year by claiming top honors at the Lawton Rangers Rodeo Aug. 7-10 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Irwin, the son of Robertsdale City Council member Ruthie Campbell and Ken Irwin, who now lives in Florida with his wife and young son, followed up his $100,000 top prize at the world-famous Calgary Stampede July 9-14 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, by winning a total of just over $3,000 at the Lawton Rangers Rodeo.

After finishing tied for fourth with Tyler Waguespack and Tyler Pearson with a time of 4.3 in the first round of competition, which earned the cowboys $501 each, Irwin stood alone in fourth for the second round of competition with a time of 4.2, earning an additional $752.

He then finished with an average of 8.5 seconds on two head for the final day of competition, claiming the $2,337 top purse. Pearson finished second with an 8.9 average; Tom Uttermark was third with 9.3, Riley Duvall was fourth at 9.4, and West Ratliff rounded out the Top 5 with a 9.8-second average.

Irwin currently sits at sixth in the 2019 PRCA RAM World Standings for steer wrestling with a total of $75,297.02.

In addition to Lawton, Irwin has claimed victories at the Molalla Buckaroo Rodeo, July 1-4 in Molalla, Oregon, a total purse of $5,111, and the Ropin’ Dreams competition April 26-27 in Jourdanton, Texas, a total purse of $934.

After winning the Alabama state high school championship twice and finishing once as reserve champion, Irwin joined the National Finals Rodeo circuit in 2011 after winning the NIRA Central Plains Region titles in 2010 and 2012 as an amateur and qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo four times.

He has qualified for the Vegas finals four of the last five years, finishing second in the world standings in 2014, 13th in 2015, fifth in 20176 and 12th last year.
