LOXLEY, Alabama — The Town of Loxley held dedication ceremonies on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Loxley Municipal Park on Alabama 59.

“We put it here because millions of people pass by here every day and we wanted everyone to know how much we care about our veterans and active military,” said Mayor Billy Middleton.

Middleton thanked all of those who were involved with the project, including David Wilson, who did the brick work for the project, Ernie Banks, Chad Watkins, Tommy Hudson and the town’s park employees and the town council for securing approval and funding for the project.

Guest speaker for the dedication ceremony was U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne. Prayer of dedication was presented by the Rev. Jim Batchelor, Loxley United Methodist Church; prayer for our country was presented by the Rev. Brian Wade, Loxley Church of God; prayer for our military was presented by the Rev. Louis Johnson, Loxley First Baptist Church. Taps was performed by Jerry Spray.

The brick structure includes a plaque which reads, “Dedicated by the Town of Loxley as a lasting tribute to the men and women who have served, or are presently serving, in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Let us never forget that freedom isn’t free. We appreciate your service.”

There is also a memorial wall with plaques representing the five branches of services, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy, along with flags for each branch of service and a POW/MIA flag, all flown at half-staff during the ceremony and through the Veterans Day Observance, which was Monday, Nov. 12.

Memorial and Honor bricks are being offered, to be placed in front of the memorial. Bricks come in two sizes, 4 x 8, which includes 18 characters per line up to three lines per brick at a cost of $50; or 8 by 8, which can include up to six lines per brick at a cost of $75 (characters include spaces, commas, dashes, etc.).

Checks or money orders should be made payable to The Town of Loxley. Forms are available at Town Hall and at the Loxley Civic Center, located at the park. For more information call 251-964-5162 or 251-964-6444.
