ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The SEC Soccer Tournament was held once in Orange Beach for the 15th year in their 26 years of the Conference Championship Tournament’s existence. In a crazy and upset-minded tournament, the No. 10 LSU Lady Tigers came out as Conference Champions, earning their 1st conference championship title in program history.

The Lady Tigers got through the first round with a 3-2 victory in overtime versus the No. 10 Missouri Tigers. The LSU Tigers then upset the No. 2 Tennessee Lady Volunteers with a 7-6 penalty kick setting score. The Lady Tigers then beat the No. 6 seeded South Carolina Lady Gamecocks 1-0, who beat No. 3 Texas A&M in the previous round, in the semifinals.

This set up an SEC Conference Championship matchup between the Lady Tigers and the No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks, who appeared in their third straight SEC Conference Championship game. The Razorbacks got on the board first with an assist from Froward Stefani Doyle where her shot hit the crossbar but set up an easy shot from forward Taylor Malham on LSU goalkeeper and MVP of the Conference Tournament in Caroline Brockmeier.

The Lady Tigers eventually got on the board 71:40 minutes in the game from a long-range shot from forward Shannon Cooke to tie the game. Cooke mentioned that she had a fantastic set up from her team and off the assist from midfielder Abbey Newton. After a scoreless double overtime, the game went to penalty kick were won 4-1 on kicks from Alex Thomas, Adrienne Richardson, Marlena Cutura, and Abbey Newton.

The Lady Tigers displayed great defense and stopped the Razorbacks from pushing the ball with great tight coverage. The Lady Tigers easily closed off set-up shots and lanes after they allowed the first goal. Overall, Brockmeier saved two great shots that had a high probability of going in the goal. After the game, forward Shannon Cooke had great enthusiasm on her team winning the SEC Conference Championship Tournament to now getting ready for the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.

“This means everything for this team, like we've come so far since the beginning of the season, now we just feel like we can do anything. Any team that steps in our path as long as we stay together and stays focused with 100 percent effort, we know we can beat them."

There are a record-tying nine SEC teams in the National Championship Tournament of 64 teams. The LSU Lady Tigers will host the Boston University Terriers in the first round of the tournament on Sunday, Nov. 11.
