ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — A Robertsdale man is facing manslaughter charges after police say he crossed over the centerline, struck and killed a motorcyclist who was partly off the roadway on College Avenue (County Road 71) Saturday afternoon, June 1.

Noel Courtland Bergevin, 38, of Robertsdale is in jail without bond after being booked into the Baldwin County Corrections facility Sunday morning, June 2, charged with felony manslaughter and driving under combined influence.

According to a post on the Robertsdale Police Department’s Facebook page Sunday morning, RPD officers responded to a report of an accident at around 2:08 p.m. on Saturday.

Once on the scene officers found 43-year-old Elmer Earl Cook II of Robertsdale, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say a 2014 Jeep, driven by Bergevin, was traveling north and crossed over the centerline into the southbound lane and partly off the roadway, striking a 1997 Honda motorcycle and Cook.

Investigators say Cook may have been on the shoulder of the roadway on the southbound side of College Avenue when he was struck. Further investigation revealed that there was probable cause to arrest Bergevin for driving under the influence. Bergevin has also been charged with manslaughter.

The investigation is still ongoing.
