ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Employees from the George P. Thames Adult Activity Center in Robertsdale got to work after Hurricane Sally, cooking and serving meals for first responders at the Robertsdale Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to Robertsdale firefighters and utility workers, the crew are also feeding assistance crews from East Bay Electric, a private contractor based in of Robertsdale, Opelika, Tuskegee and Florence.

Amy Ochello, director of senior activities for the city of Robertsdale, said food was donated locally from Danny’s, Circle K and Pizza Hut.

“We also went to purchase supplies from Walmart and when they found out what we were doing, they donated all of our groceries,” Ochello said.

In the first three days after the storm, employees served more than 350 meals to first responders and planned to continue serving meals as long as crews are in Robertsdale to assist, said Mayor Charles Murphy.

In addition, the two daughters and son of Senior Center employee Mary Williams also volunteered their time to serve first responders.
