SBCC seeking official artwork for the 18th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival

FOLEY - With the 2021 Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival still fresh on your mind, you may not be thinking about next year’s festival quite yet. At the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, however, plans are already rolling for the 2022 festival, with hopes to keep the event growing and returning better than ever.

“We had a hugely successful 2021 event and we are looking forward to coming back bigger and better in 2022!” said Events Operations Manager Candice Workman. “We're already discussing how to get more parking, better handicap accessibility, and of course more balloons for next year. We had nearly 300 volunteers and our committee worked tirelessly to pull off this event. We learned a lot this year with the change of venue and OWA has been great to work with.”

The chamber staff aren’t the only ones who are thinking about next year’s festival. For interested artists, now’s the time to get creative. Only one design will be chosen as the official artwork for the 18th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival that will take place in May, 2022, and the committee has opened the search. With the event expanding each year, this year promises more submitted designs than ever.

“In the past, we have received three to five art submissions for the poster,” Workman said. “Those submissions are then taken to the committee and voted on to select the winning design. I have already had three local artists contact me about submitting artwork for 2022. It just shows how much the event has grown and the reach we have been able to make with the partnership with OWA.”

The chosen artist will be commissioned to produce the t-shirt and poster artwork for next year’s event. Artists are permitted to submit up to three drafts. Each draft must follow the official criteria, set forth by the committee, to be considered for the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival official artwork. Criteria for consideration is as follows:

  • Artwork must be original by artist.
  • Artist must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Theme should include: Hot Air Balloons, Art, Music, and the Gulf Coast.
  • Name of the Festival should be included in artwork: 18th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival.
  • Year should be included in the artwork: 2022.
  • Foley, AL should be included in the artwork.
  • Artist should use bold PMS or Pantone true colors.
  • Actual size of the commissioned poster after productions will not exceed 18 inches horizontal and 24 inches vertical.
  • If selected, artist agrees to relinquish ownership of artwork.
  • If selected, artwork becomes sole property of Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival and the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and may or may not be used in any manner the Chamber desires without further compensation to the artist.
  • If selected, commissioned artist will receive one payment of $500.

The South Baldwin Chamber asks that artists submit their proposed drafts by Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021. Artists can deliver their designs to the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce located at 19812 Underwood Road, Foley, or mail designs to PO Box 1117, Foley, AL 36536.
