Toros top Tigers in 6A Region 1 match up


SPANISH FORT, Ala. - The Spanish Fort Toros (4-2) got back on track after their region loss to St. Paul’s. The Toros dominated the Baldwin County High School Tigers (1-6) with a 37-7 score.

Offensively, the Toros had 421 total yards with 339 rushing. SFHS rarely spread the ball passing. The Toros’ offensive line, led by tackle Brady Wilson and guard Jack Myers, led the charge of a dominant rushing performance from the entire Toros offense. Dual-threat quarterback Kris Abrams-Draine had 15 rushes for 73 yards and two touchdowns of one-yard and nine yards.

Sophomore running back Johnny Morris III accounted for 130 yards on 18 carries as he was the workhorse for the Toros rushing game. Sophomore Chico Hixon rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. All three of these Toros rushed for 283 yards and four touchdowns against the Tigers’ defense.

Defensively, the Toros held the BCHS Tigers’ offense to 136 total yards and forced six three-and-out drives from the Tigers’ offense.

The Tigers scored in the third quarter when quarterback Josh Crook connected with wide receiver Martavious Crook for a 78-yard touchdown. Later in the third quarter, a BCHS pass was intercepted (the Tigers’ only turnover) by cornerback Carl Fauntroy.

Toros senior middle linebacker Brayden Moore had five total tackles and a tackle for loss. Senior defensive end/defensive tackle Carlos Johnson was disruptive the entire night against the Tigers’ offense. He forced the interception for a quarterback hurry. The Toros had six total tackles for loss.

The Toros travel to Blount (6-1) on Friday night in another key 6A region one matchup. Tigers will face the Robertsdale Golden Bears (1-7) on Friday night.
