A Summerdale man, who had recently escaped from jail in Mississippi, was recaptured in the Silverhill area on Sunday after being tracked by officials through several areas of Baldwin County.

Billy Takoda Hinton, 21, whose address is listed as County Road 9, Summerdale, is in jail without bond, charged with first degree receiving stolen property; attempting to elude, third degree assault and reckless endangerment after the U.S. Marshals service received information that he may be at a residence in Loxley on Sunday. He is also being held as a fugitive from justice.

According to information released Monday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Hinton recently escaped from the Greene County Jail in Mississippi and was wanted by law enforcement.

“Deputies determined that Hinton had been at a house on Fox Branch Road the previous night,” according to the release. “Deputies later saw Hinton in the woods and gave chase.”

Hinton was able to elude the officers by running into a heavily wooded area near I-10.

“A perimeter was established in an attempt to locate Hinton,” according to the release. “Alabama Department of Corrections tracking dogs were brought in to track the suspect. During the track, the suspect stole a vehicle as was able to leave the area.”

Deputies made phone contact with Hinton in an attempt to get him to turn himself in. He agreed to turn himself in but changed his mind as he was headed to meet the officers.

Deputy US Marshals saw Hinton, in the stolen vehicle on County Road 9 in Marlow and gave chase. Hinton wrecked into a tree in the Silverhill area and fled on foot. He was located a short time later and arrested.

Hinton was treated on scene for a laceration to his head. He also received treatment at the hospital prior to being booked into the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Correction Center.

Hinton’s wife, Delenna Hathcock, 36, of Summerdale was also arrested, charged with hindering prosecution second degree and hindering the apprehension of an escapee. According to Baldwin County online jail records, Hathcock was released less than two hours later on $1,000 bond.

Loxley Police, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Foley Police and the Alabama Department of Corrections assisted in the capture.
