Movies are dear to my heart, especially those about sports. Who can forget classics like “Major League”, “Bull Durham”, “Hoosiers”, and my all time favorite “Field of Dreams”. Over the years, several memorable movies about golf come to mind; but sadly many are completely ignored at the theater.
I researched the top ten golf classics and a found a few surprises along the way. Everybody remembers wacky grounds keeper Bill Murray and the outrageous Rodney Dangerfield in “Caddyshack”; but what about “Par 6” in 2002, “From the Rough” in 2013, and the ever popular “Fairway to Heaven”, no kidding, in 2007.
Recently, I ran across No. 7 on the list, “7 Days in Utopia”, on Netflix by accident. The film caught my eye because it featured two of my favorite actors, Robert Duval and Lucas Black, the kid from “Slingblade” and now “CSI New Orleans”. It turns out the Alabama native, an avid golfer, has become a rising star on the big and small screen. The film was about a young conflicted golfer (Black) who met a mentor (Duval) that helped him find his faith and way in life.
