Emmett M. Cox, Jr., age 98, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016.

Mr. Cox was a veteran of WWII and retired after 30 years of service as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Legion of Merit.

During WWII, he served in North Africa and the battle of the Anzio Beach Head in Italy. After the war, he served in the United States, but at times was stationed in South Korea and Naples, Italy.

He was a member of Fairhope United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne M. Cox of Fairhope; sons, Judge Emmett Ripley Cox (Ann) of Fairhope and Kenneth Wood Cox (Peggy) of Troy; four grandchildren, John Haas Cox (Francesca Wakem), Catherine Cox Jouet (Jason), Kenneth Wood Cox Jr. (Lydia) and Taylor Cox Jinright (Ross); 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Cox (Cynthia) of Oceanside, California; other relatives and friends.

Military graveside services and interment will be held for the family in Memory Gardens of Fairhope.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Haven, 559 S. Section St., Fairhope; Salvation Army, 2015 W. McKenzie St., Foley, AL 36535; or The William F. Green State Veteran's Home, 300 Faulkner Dr., Bay Minette, AL 36507.
