Local dad, son win gold at world martial arts games

The only father-son pair on the United States Martial Art's "Team USA" competed in the week-long WMA Games

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Tim Langston and his son Alex of Gulf Shores returned from the 2016 World Martial Arts Games in Johannesburg, South Africa with a total of five gold medals. Alex (11) won two gold medals and now is world champion in Forms and Grappling. His dad (44) won three gold medals and one bronze and is now the world champion in Forms, Weapons and Point Fighting.

The only father-son pair on the United States Martial Art's "Team USA" sanctioned by the Olympics, Alex (11) made the team in April and Tim (44) in June. After training hard all summer, they competed in the week-long WMA Games from Oct. 10-19.

They train locally in Gulf Shores at Wheeles Karate Academy with Sensei Chris Wheeles, Sensei Kristie Wheeles and Sensei Kyle Robbins. They also train with Gulf Coast Martial Arts as well as in Ashland. For more information visit: WorldMartialArtsGames.jimdo.com and WWMMA.org.
