Rev. Bernard Edward Dyess, age 86, a native of Robertsdale, Alabama and resident of Paxton, Florida, went to be with his Lord, Jan. 2, 2017.

Bernard was a 1949 graduate of Robertsdale High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball with fellow classmates and attending FFA classes.

After serving as an instructor in the U.S. Army in Germany, he settled in Florida where he purchased a farm and married Ethel Hoover. They were blessed with four children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bernard truly loved to farm and was known for his agricultural expertise. He pastored churches and held revivals in Alabama and Florida for many years.

Bernard believed in working hard as was evident in his life as a soldier, farmer and a minister. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish and hunt.

His life was filled with purpose as he shared his faith, time and produce. He leaves a rich legacy to his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lola Dyess; and brother, Ernest Dyess.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; his children and grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Dyess Ryan (John); and brother, George Marion Dyess (Jeanette); and many other relatives who made his life richer.

Rev. Dyess' funeral was held at New Harmony Baptist Church, Jan. 6, 2017. Family members gave eulogies and Rev. Donald Delaney brought the message.
