Anthony Jones Hair Salon Celebrates 25 Years

Anthony Jones cuts and cuts up with his customers as he styles and perfects their hair. With a friendly British accent that you just want to hear more of and a warm salon that customers feel at home in, Jones has made his mark as the best of the best among the community. On Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach, you'll find a beach house style salon that has become a local favorite during its 25 years. With only two employees, the salon prides itself in being more like hair doctors than stylists. The salon is operated by Anthony Jones and his daughter Emma. The father-daughter team has built a beach empire styling hair and delight in taking both new customers and clients that have been depending on them for years. Anthony Jones' mother and her sister started the family love for hairstyling in London. Jones began cutting hair there when he was 16 for Steiners. The famed company styles the hair of the royal family and holds the British seal.

Jones was handpicked by Steiners to come to the United States in 1968 and open their operation in New York. He was then employed by Glemby International, as head of their Chicago location. He transferred with the company to New Orleans and after two years, opened four hair salons of his own in the city. He ran the salons in Louisiana for over 10 years before a client told him about a place on the Alabama-Florida line called Perdido Key. After visiting this treasure of a beach, Jones sold his New Orleans salons and moved his family to the area in 1990. Jones opened Anthony Jones Hair Salon in Orange Beach and has been in the same building for 25 years. Jones calls his daughter, Emma, his 'right hand man.' “Our big thing is education for the client,” Emma said. “We continue going to shows and classes every year to make sure we can give back to you guys and to teach you and keep your hair as happy as possible. We can all have beautiful hair it's just working with it to make sure it's happy and healthy.” The salon offers anything and all things hair and take many factors into consideration before going for your perfect look. Jones and his daughter give friendly and helpful advice to their clients looking for a new do. “Most of our thing is being a doctor more or less and finding out the roots and terms of why your hair isn't being happy, or getting the most out of it as possible by your face shape, bone structure, head shape, likes dislikes and fashion,” Emma said. Anthony Jones also has its own hair product line. With over 40 different types and sizes of products, the signature items are made in California and range from shampoos to gels to hair vitamins and more. “We're always improving on our product line,” Emma said. “With our climate down here with the salt in the air and the sun, we're trying to fight against all that. “That's what makes our line of products different from in any other line in that it's packed with sunscreens and conditioners and protection, so whether you're in the sun, or dealing with blow dryers or straight irons, everything is taken care of,” Jones said. Both Anthony and Emma enjoy having a business at the beach and couldn't think of a better place to be. “It's home for one,” Emma said. “You get such a diversity of people depending on the time of year. Of course, we love our locals because they are the ones that give us a lot all year-round and it's like family. We have people we've been hairstyling since we've been down here.” “I like the laid-back atmosphere, it's safe, comfortable,” Jones said. “To me, big cities are getting so much crime and everything so this a great place to have kids and just a good environment. I've been living here a long while and it doesn't seem like it. You can chill out here instead of being in the rat race.”
