Baldwin EMC Activates Natural Disaster Plan Ahead of Hurricane Sally

Posted

Baldwin EMC staff and employees are operating under its disaster response plan, as Hurricane Sally slowly moves toward the Gulf Coast. All Baldwin EMC offices are currently closed due to worsening weather conditions.

“Our disaster emergency plan has been activated as of 6 a.m. Tuesday,” says Baldwin EMC Vice President of Corporate Services and Public Relations Mark Ingram. “We’re currently responding to outages and will continue to do so, weather permitting. As conditions deteriorate, we’ll pull our employees from the field for their safety. As the storm passes, our crews will be ready to restore power again as safely and quickly as possible.”

Members whose medical conditions require electricity are urged to make alternate plans for their healthcare needs since uninterrupted power cannot be guaranteed.

Baldwin EMC has taken all standard precautionary measures, and their emergency preparedness team has confirmed that all preliminary requirements for storm preparation have been met. They have additional supplies stocked such as poles, transformers, wire, and other needed equipment. In addition to regularly scheduled emergency crews, Baldwin EMC has extra crews on standby prepared to respond should the area experience widespread outages.

The cooperative is currently experiencing issues with its phone service from CenturyLink and has activated its backup phone system. If members are attempting to contact Baldwin EMC from a carrier other than CenturyLink, please call 251-580-5500 or 1-800-837-3374.
