Bay Minette man charged in shooting

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — A Bay Minette man is facing first-degree assault charges in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday. He has also been charged in connection with an earlier complaint at the same residence.

According to a release issued Monday by Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert, 42-year-old Robert Lee Jones of Bay Minette was arrested Sunday, June 7 on charges of first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

According to the release, BMPD officers responded to a home on Magnolia Street regarding a shooting investigation, where they found Anitra Sherman Adams inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to her left leg.

Abrams was transported to USA Medical Center where she remains. Her condition is unknown at this time.

During the initial investigation, Jones was identified as a suspect in the shooting. Officers found Jones at his residence and took him into custody without further incident. According to the release, unspecified evidence was found at Jones’ residence further linking him to the shooting.

Investigators also linked Jones to a complaint from Abrams on June 3, prompting additional charges of first-degree sexual abuse and third-degree assault to be added on Monday.

According to the Baldwin County Corrections Facility website, Jones is in jail without bond.
