DAPHNE, Ala. — Bayside Academy advanced to the playoffs with a 22-0 shutout over visiting Flomaton at Freedom Field in Daphne Friday night.
Mac Douglas kicked a 37-yard field goal 92 seconds into the second quarter for the Admirals who followed with 19 more unanswered points for the Class 3A, Region 1 victory. Matt Kalifeh then hit Nathan Cook for a 36-yard touchdown pass and Kalifeh found Seth Shirley for a 78-yard strike with 57 seconds left in the first half. A try for two points was no good and Bayside was up 16-0 at the half.
In the third quarter, the second of Austin White’s two interceptions led to another Kalifeh-to-Cook touchdown (40-yards) with one second left in the third period. The Bayside defense then preserved the shutout the rest of the way.
The win along with Clarke County’s 27-17 win over T.R. Miller validated the Admirals’ fourth-place, postseason berth in the Region 1 standings. Bayside defeated Miller Oct. 20 17-14 in overtime on a field goal by Douglas.
Bayside (5-4, 4-3) will host 5A powerhouse Carroll-Ozark (9-0, 6-0) in non-league play Oct. 27 to wrap up the regular season.
