Benjamin Cordell Barnhill

Benjamin Cordell Barnhill, age 87, native of Loxley and longtime resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017.

Mr. Barnhill graduated from Robertsdale High School, and then completed his education at Auburn University School of Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army as a hospital pharmacist in Heidelburg, Germany during the Korean War.

Benjamin and Betty married on Sept. 26, 1956. He began working at Fairhope Pharmacy in 1957 and became the owner in 1959.

He was a member of the Rotary Club for 60 years and a past president. He was active in civic activities and a member of Single Tax Colony Corporation.

Mr. Barnhill was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Fairhope.

Mr. Barnhill was preceded in death by his parents, Exa Lou Horne and David Franklin Barnhill.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Gene Phillips Barnhill; daughter, Lou Anne Barnhill (Billy) Harrell; grandson, William Gaines Harrell; brother, Wendell (Charlotte) Barnhill; sisters-in-law, Mildred Barnhill, Mary Jean Barnhill; numerous nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Fairhope on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 at 2 p.m.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. until time of the service.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Loxley, Alabama.
