Betty Lou Lanius

Betty Lou Lanius, age 95, of Foley, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, May 18, 2019.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1924 in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of James C. and Bess (Hahn) Lanius.

Betty had lived in Foley, Alabama for the past 10 years. Prior to Foley, Betty lived in Waukegan, Illinois and was a biochemist at Abbott Labs where she was instrumental in the development of a pre-natal rubella testing kit. She retired at the age of 42.

Eventually she moved to Libertyville, Illinois where she lived for many years.

Betty was loving and generous and will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was a remarkable adventurous person and believed everyone should travel the world. Betty loved the ocean and walking the beaches.

She was always smiling and loved spending time with all of her nephews and their families. Family and friends could always go to Betty for love and advice. She had a way of making lives better.

Her faith in God's love was a great source of hope and inspiration to her. She attended St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Parish in Foley.

She is survived by her four nephews, James C. Lanius (Sharon) of Foley, Alabama, Charles A. Lanius (Susan), of Lodi, Wisconsin, Patrick A. Lanius (Debbie) of El Dorado Hills, California and Richard W. Lanius (Marcia) of New Glarus, Wisconsin; 10 great-nieces and -nephews; and many great-great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Bess Lanius of Evanston, Illinois; and her brother and sister-in-law, James C. and Marcia Lanius of Elgin, Illinois.

The family would like to thank Denise and Patty, for loving Betty and taking such great care of her, her neighbors who were always ready to lend a hand and Father Paul Zoghby of St. Margaret Catholic Parish.

A special thank you to Betty A. for being Betty's friend and angel on earth.
