ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday, Aug. 22 with the Central Baldwin Sunset Rotary Club at its new home, 22765 Alabama 59 S., Robertsdale.
Founded June 13, 2013, the Central Baldwin Sunset Rotary Club at upstairs at Ivey’s Restaurant before opening the “Rotary House” on Alabama 59. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday followed by meetings at 6 p.m.
“We are super excited to have everyone join us for this official grand opening,” said 2019-20 Club President Ann Simpson, CFO for the City of Robertsdale. “Several of our Charter members are still with the club and we had a vision when we started of being able to meet in our own space. It took a lot of hard work by a lot of people to make this happen.”
The Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, which boasts more than 1.2 million members in more than 35,000 clubs worldwide and operates by the credo of “Service above self,” and under the motto of the 4-way test, “Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? And Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”
The Rotary Club averages about 30 members, according to its website, centralbaldwinsunsetrotary.com, and participates in several service projects, fund raisers and social events every quarter.

In addition, the Rotary Club hosts annual events, such as:

Alligators and Ale
This annual fundraiser is held every October at Alligator Alley in Summerdale.
The 2019 event will be held Oct. 5 and will include a 5K race, in addition to the corn hold tournament. Proceeds from the event benefit the Miracle League of Baldwin County. Last year the Club raised $17,000 with the event, Simpson said.

Boston Butts for Vets
On Veterans' day weekend each year the Club cooks Boston Butts to raise money for local veterans' groups. “We typically pre-sell about 250 to 300 butts,” according to the website. The event culminates with a full 24-hour cook that pulls together other members of the Robertsdale community to help cook. Butts go on sell each year in October.

Christmas at the Library
In 2017, the Robertsdale Public Library started a new traditional with the help of the Central Baldwin Sunset Rotary Club. The Christmas at the library event welcomed over 125 kids of all ages to take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, both members, as well as receive two Christmas books and some candy.
