Charles Douglas Lowery, Starkville resident, born May 8, 1937, died Jan. 12, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis.
He received his Doctorate in History in 1966 from the University of Virginia, where he was a Jefferson Scholar.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susie Bradford Lowery, the daughter of John T. and Estelle Bradford.
His was a life well-lived, dedicated in service to his fellow man and seeking social justice for those with the least voice.
A celebration of life service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in his name to the College Choice Foundation through the Trinity Presbyterian Church Office or to the charity of your choice.
