The seniors at DayBreak Senior Daycare were thrilled to be visited by musician Cody Johnson recently. Johnson is director of Worship Arts for Gulf Shores United Methodist Church. He played a long list of “old favorites” from various genres ranging from hymns to well know pop tunes from the past to Broadway hits. He performed for over an hour and often the seniors sang along and played “name that tune”. Everyone had a great time! Shown here after the performance, standing from the left are Renae Brussard, Blan Blankenship, LaVerne Schauer, Cody, David McLean, Velma Tuttle and Gloria Vandermoot. Seated, from the left, are Jean Coker and M. J. Vandermoot.
DayBreak Senior Daycare provides a secure, loving environment where individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia are encouraged to participate in playing games, craft projects, singing, exercising and social interaction. The senior daycare provides participants’ fulltime caregiver with short term relief from the unrelenting demands of caregiving by providing time out to grocery shop, attend support groups, or visit friends and family.
All DayBreak Senior Daycare participants must be pre-registered. The program is not designed to provide medical or counseling services but to provide support for the caregivers and their loved ones. It is offered every Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm and is located in Building B on the South Campus of Gulf Shores United Methodist Church. Cost is $20 per visit and includes a hot lunch.
