FOLEY - Who’s ready for the 27th Annual Foley Rotary Club Oyster Run? Mark your calendars, the event is coming up on Sat., Nov. 9 at The Park at OWA! Foley Rotary Club’s largest fundraiser event of the year, the Oyster Run raises funds to be put towards scholarships for graduating Foley High School seniors, Habitat for Humanity, Boy and Girl Scouts, children’s programs at the Snook YMCA, Foley High School sports, Secret Meals Program, Foley Library, Camp ASCA, and many other organizations.

The event kicks off with a 5K Run/Walk beginning at 8 a.m., with a One Mile Fun Run beginning at 9. The 5K Run/Walk cost is $20 to participate. The One Mile Fun Run is $15. The USATF certified course is flat and smooth, so anyone who wishes can participate. Racing can leave you hungry, which is why gumbo, pizza, hotdogs, and of course, oysters from Bon Secour, will be available at the event’s after-party, along with beverages. Once the racers have returned, the awards ceremony will take place. Door prizes and the Grand Prize of a weekend stay in a two-bedroom condo at The Caribe Resort in Orange Beach will go to the lucky winners. Award categories include: Overall Male and Female; Master Male and Female (40-49); Grandmaster Male and Female (50-59); Senior Grandmaster Male and Female (60+); Wheelchair; Racewalk Male and Female; Fun Run Male and Female; and Top Three Finishers in Each Age Group.

Major sponsors of the event include Ascend Performance Materials, Bon Secour Fisheries, Wolf Bay Lodge, and South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. Special thanks go to Foley Police Department, OWA, and Mellow Mushroom.

If you’re interested in participating, you can go to RunSignUp.com for registration. If you’d rather sign up on race day, be at OWA between 6:30 - 7:30 a.m. Registration will be set up near The Groovy Goat at the entrance of the property, near the clocktower. Race packets, including an Oyster Run t-shirt and race number, can be picked up at registration on Nov. 9. You must sign a waiver to participate. For more information, email Foleyoysterrun@gmail.com.
