ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Robertsdale City Council voted Monday, April 16 to approve bid solicitation for upgrades to Honeybee Park which are scheduled to be completed by 2021.

It’s the next step in the process for the planned park improvements, which were approved along with contracts with architects Adams & Stewart in August of last year.

The city hosted a series of meetings in September and October 2016 to solicit public input for long-range plans to make improvements to Honeybee Park in preparation for the city’s centennial in 2021.

Plans call for the addition of parking, restructuring of sidewalks and landscaping of the park, along with the addition of central features, such as a pavilion and playground area.

One of the main features will be a 500-seat amphitheater which will be placed in the current location of the city’s utilities barn with plans to move the barn to property the city owns north of the Robertsdale Police Station on East Chicago Street.

In other business April 16, the council:

•Voted to reappoint Amanda Brill, Nell Calloway and Sonja Connor to the Park, Street Tree Committee.

•Approved a request to surplus to mowers and a truck in the Public Works Department.

•Approved a franchise agreement and pole attachment agreement with Harbor Communications.

•Approved an advertising renewal request from Gulf Coast Media for its annual graduation section and Big Beautiful Baldwin.

•Rescheduled its May 21 meeting to Friday, May 18 because of the League Convention.

•Approved a Coliseum Day request from Robertsdale High School for its 2018-19 Junior/Senior Prom to be held in March of 2019.

•Approved a resolution calling for an Attorney General opinion on employee benefit offering.
