Customize your holiday wrapping at The Plot Shop

When you find the impossibly perfect gift, doesn’t it deserve the impossibly perfect wrapping?

The Plot Shop can print any wrapping paper you want – made from photos, logos and even personal artwork.

Joe Comer helped open The Plot Shop in Daphne almost 20 years ago. Several years ago, he took over ownership and brought his daughter Julie Comer on board. For decades the shop focused on wide format printing that construction crews and architects relied on to help expand Baldwin County.

Last year, when the Comers opened a Fairhope location, they decided their giant machines should also spend some time printing fun.

They hired graphic designers Jamie Hadden and Grace Horne and began offering banners, cards, invitations and programs for events.  Soon the staff realized that Hadden’s watercolor of a Santa hat clad pelican and another of a pelican pulling Santa’s sleigh would make a picture perfect holiday wrapping. Horne’s design focused on her calligraphy talents.

So, they printed the designs and personalized, locally-made custom wrapping paper was born.

“I wanted to do something to diversify the business and do something that was really fun,” Julie Comer said. “We have so many great artists in this area and we wanted to serve that community. It’s been really great.”

The Plot Shop team can turn original art into wrapping paper or bring to life an idea that customers have but may not be able to create on their own. Comer said they can easily create wrapping covered in company logos, photos and artwork.

The rolls measure 3 feet wide and 6 feet long and total 6 linear feet. Cost is $36 a roll plus a $10 set up fee. There is a graphic design fee if a Plot Team member crafts a custom arrangement. Most projects are completed in 24 hours.

“I think we really hit a cord with the artists in this location. We have a lot of people come and turn their artwork into cards and other items and it’s fun to see all that,” Comer said.
