Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department to host 3rd Annual “Smoke’em if you Got’em” Cook-off

The Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department will host its 3rd Annual BBQ Cook off on Saturday, March 30 in downtown Fairhope. The event, this year, will be held at the Fairhope Civic Center from 2 pm. to 10 p.m. and will feature cook teams, live music, demonstrations, and children’s activities.

 

Entertainment will begin at 2 p.m. with the Gringo Fife band and at 6 p.m. the Velcro Pygmies will perform. The Velcro Pygmies are loud, fast, larger than life and have been compared to Van Halen, Poison and Bon Jovi.  If you like “Big Rock” this is the band for you!

 

Ticket holders will sample each teams BBQ and vote on the People’s Choice Award. Members of the Fairhope City Council will serve as celebrity judges. In addition to People’s Choice Award, prizes will be awarded for best overall BBQ, best ribs, chicken and wild game.

 

Proceeds from the event will be used to fund equipment to keep the fire stations and volunteers safe and prepared.  The FVFD Is 100% volunteer and is not 100% financially supported by the City of Fairhope. This is the FVFD largest fundraiser of the year. Last they made over $30,000 and hope to raise $50,000 this year.

 

The FVFD currently has more than 60 members and maintains four fire stations and more than 19 trucks. In 2018 they ran 1,041 calls including fire, accident and medical emergencies. The FVFD maintains an ISO rating of 4, which puts them in the top 8% fire departments in the country.

 

Tickets are $30 and available from any fire fighter, at the Ingleside Fire Station or at the door. Cook teams are $300 and each team will receive six tickets, t-shirts and huggers. Sponsorships are also available starting at $500 and donations are accepted. Tshirts, cups and other promotional items will also be available during the event. The FVFD is a 501c3 organization.
