Fire crews from around the area responded to a large brush fire in Gulf State Park Sunday. The fire started in the 500 block of Perdido Beach Boulevard and quickly moved north toward marshland. State Park Road (formerly known as Hwy. 135) was closed for a period of time but was reopened Sunday night.

Crews worked with the Alabama Forestry Commission to get the fire under control quickly and had it extinguished but expected the fire to smolder through the night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
