FOLEY - October brought the Halloween season, and the City of Foley celebrated the holiday throughout the month with a variety of trick and treat opportunities.

The festivities started on Oct. 24 in the streets of downtown Foley when the Annual Hometown Halloween event brought out Halloween-lovers of all ages. Downtown merchants, city businesses, and Foley officials came out to host a large trick or treat event that was attended by hundreds of citizens. The night included a costume contest, bounce houses, a hay ride, and tons of booths handing out candy or featuring games where you could win prizes. Admission was free to the event, which marks a great way to celebrate Halloween in Foley.

Next came the Foley Witches Ride on Sat., Oct. 26. Over 200 witches joined the bike ride through the streets of downtown Foley during the Society of Black Hats event, which raises money to benefit two local charities: Family Promise and the backpack feeding program through St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The 2018 event provided over three thousand dollars to each organization.

Later that night, hundreds of citizens flocked to the Foley Public Library for the 6th Annual Halloween Extravaganza, a family-friendly event and the library’s largest event of the year. An outside carnival offered face painting, balloon artistry, dancing, and a variety of other free activities. A live DJ played party and Halloween music to keep the crowd dancing, and book themed characters greeted attendees. The popular “Festival of Fright” Haunted Stacks Tour was held through the upstairs of the library, a favorite of teens and adults.
