Chaplain Billy Nale, who has been the pastor at Foley First Baptist Church since 2000 as well as the police chaplain, is retiring and moving into the next chapter of life. On Monday, July 16, he was honored by the Foley Police Department and Foley councilmembers for his services during his time as police chaplain.

“This is bittersweet for us, because Billy has not only served many years as a preacher here at First Baptist, but he has been our chaplain for many years as well,” said Chief David Wilson. “He’s been a great asset to our department, he’s been there for us when we’ve seen some rough stuff and need to talk about it, he’s been there for us when we’ve had to make death notifications, which is one of the worst things cops have to do. But when the chaplain shows up and is going to do it with you, it’s a big difference.”

Wilson honored Nale with a plaque from the Foley Police Department, thanking him for his friendship and his service to the men and women in the department.

Though not originally from Foley, Nale has lived in the area now for many years, and stated that though he and his wife are moving, their daughter will remain here, and they will be back to visit the place they have come to know as home.

“Let me just say what a joy it has been to work with David Wilson and the Foley Police Department,” said Nale. “I thank God every day for the opportunity He’s given me to live and to serve in the city of Foley. This is absolutely my favorite place I have ever lived, and I have lived here longer than anywhere else … I want everyone to know for me this is home, and this city will always hold a very special place in my heart because of the love you have shown my family, and the support you have shown us, and allowing us to be an integral part of it. Thank you, we appreciate you, and we will miss you.”
