Foley Woman’s Club holds annual Kickoff

The Foley Woman’s Club held their annual Kickoff event at the Gift Horse Restaurant in Foley on Sept. 10. During the event, club President Chris Anglin introduced the new positions as well as guests and new members, and First Vice President Kelly Barrett, in her homemade flower hat, introduced next years’ Mad Hatters’ Event theme as In The Garden. The Mad Hatters’ Event is the club’s main fundraiser, seeking to raise funds for organizations throughout the county that aid women and children. This year’s event broke records with funds raised, allowing the club to donate over $18,000.

The guest speaker for this year’s kickoff was Foley Mayor John Koniar, who spoke of the challenges and rewards of the fast growth being experienced in Baldwin County. Koniar spoke of the new elementary school, road extensions to 9th Avenue and Fern Avenue, new housing coming to the area, and up-and-coming retailers and restaurants such as Culver's, Publix, and the possibilities for the recently sold Cactus Café building.
