Former employee charged in break-in at Silverhill Animal Clinic

SILVERHILL, Alabama — Using surveillance video as evidence, Silverhill Police arrested a former employee in a bold break-in at the Silverhill Animal Clinic last week.

Silverhill PD received the call at around 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, said Sgt. Michael Taylor, chief investigator with the department.

“Someone had cut a hole into the metal siding of the building big enough to gain entry and stole cash from the business,” Taylor said.

Investigators were able to obtain DNA evidence at the scene after the perpetrator sustained injuries while attempting the break-in, Taylor said, but in the end, they did not have to use the evidence to determine a suspect.

“Surveillance video was able to capture the incident, and while the perpetrator used a sweat jacket to cover her face, based on her stature and the way she walked, the owner suspected it was an ex-employee,” Taylor said.

Based on the evidence, police picked up 30-year-old Lindsey G. Lee of Fairhope, who confessed to the crime. She was arrested and charged with burglary, third degree, Taylor said, which could be increased and additional charges added after the damage to the building is assessed.

“We got the call at 8 that morning and we were able to make an arrest by 8 that night,” Taylor said.

Lee was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Facility at around 11:30 that night and was released on a $5,000 bond the next morning, according to records.
