Friends of the Library visits Foley Woman’s Club

Posted

Pictured here, Rusty Anglin, President of the Friends of the Foley Library, with his wife Chris, the current President of the Foley Woman’s Club. Anglin spoke to the members of the Foley Woman’s Club at their April 1 meeting. He reminded the members that the Foley Woman’s Club actually started the Foley Library in 1923 and ran it for a number of years. In 1957, the Club asked the City of Foley to assume responsibility for the library. However, the Club has continued to donate and support the activities of the library through the years.

The Friends of the Library, according to Anglin, is a volunteer organization of supporters who operate a used book store inside the library to assist with additional needs. Today, the Foley Library is nationally recognized and is a tremendous source of pride to the citizens of the area. After routine business was conducted, Mad Hatters’ chair Kelly Barrett announced the profit from the annual Mad Hatters’ event this year of $21,000. All funds will be donated to various organizations in Baldwin County that give assistance to women and children.

The Club’s May meeting will be a potluck lunch to be held at the home of Frances Holk-Jones on May 6 at 11:30 a.m.
