FOLEY - Are there any restaurants in town that you’ve thought about trying but haven’t gotten around to it yet? Why not sample a wide-variety of local restaurants all in one night? That’s exactly what you’ll be able to do during the 34th Annual Taste of South Baldwin, taking place on Thur., Sept. 12 at the Foley Civic Center (407 East Laurel Avenue) beginning at 6 p.m. The Taste of South Baldwin is the Foley Optimist Club’s annual fundraiser, and all of the proceeds go to helping local youth in a number of ways.

“These proceeds enable the Optimist Club of Foley to sponsor its Annual Children’s Christmas Party, Oratorical and Essay Contests, scholarships, academic and athletic activities for the children, respect for law and recognition of teachers, scouting, and other community functions,” said Foley Optimist Club President Clark Cathey.

The theme for this year’s event is Bluegrass Bonanza: Southern Food, Southern Music, and Southern Tradition. Live music will be performed by The Sandspur Band, and tables will be set up on the stage and around the civic center for dining.

Over 20 dining and drink options will be available for sample: Budweiser/Busch Distributing; Coca-Cola; Cobalt and Cosmo’s; JT’s and Luna’s; BuzzCatz; Mamma Mia! Pizzeria; Foosackly’s; LA BBQ and Company; Portabellas; Oak Hollow Farm; Peng Garden; Moe’s BBQ; Wolf Bay Lodge; Shrimp Basket; El Paso Mexican Grill; Flipper’s; Ole Franco’s Italian Restaurant; Original Oyster House; A La Katy’s; O’Charley’s; Tin Top; and Stacy’s Drugs.

Sponsors for the 2019 year include: Citizen’s Bank ($500); Baldwin County Sewer Services ($500); GMC ($250); Ebert Agency ($100); and One Cut Glass ($100).

Stop out to try a few vendors or try them all! Tickets can be purchased from any Optimist Club member or at Foley City Hall. Prices are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. For more information, contact Brenda Shambo at 251-943-1545 or bshambo@cityoffoley.org.
