DAPHNE, Ala. — Daphne High School administration and athletic department announced the hiring of Mike Goff as the Trojans head baseball coach.
Goff distinguished himself with his personal playing record at the collegiate (University of Alabama - Birmingham) and professional level (Boston Red Sox). The Davidson High School graduate was drafted in Major League Baseball’s 21st round by the Red Sox.
After playing, he has served as a professional manager (Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants), a bench coach (Seattle Mariners, Miami Marlins) and a hitting coach (Richmond Flying Squirrels).
“This hire shows the school’s commitment to our baseball program and adds strength and dimension to the comprehensive Trojan athletic program,” said Kenny King, DHS athletic director. “It is pivotal in building capacity at Daphne High School, and I would like to personally thank our principal Dr. (Meredith) Foster for her steadfastness during this process.”
Goff brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and success to our program. In addition, he will be a coach who inspires athletes with his passion for excellence on and off of the field.
The team is in the midst of summer conditioning, excited to meet their new leader and are enthusiastic about the future, King added.
Foster said Goff is a first-rate coach.
“He has a profound understanding of the skills and work ethic required for student-athletes to experience success and reach the next level. We are pleased to hire a coach that brings the total package and is committed to providing top-tier leadership,” she said.
Coach Goff is scheduled to meet the team and parents where he will share with them his goals and objectives for the Daphne Trojans Baseball program.
