Good Life Ride takes to the trails May 8

The trails in Gulf State Park will be busy with bikers participating in the 12th Annual Good Life Ride May 8. The event is organized by the Alabama Coastal Foundation to raise awareness for bicycle safety and support the Coastal Alabama Livable Communities Coalition.

Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, this year’s ride has been limited to 100 participants. Riders can choose between a 9-mile or 19-mile ride through Gulf State Park and the surrounding area. The ride starts at 9 a.m. at The Lodge at Gulf State Park.

The Coastal Alabama Livable Communities Coalition’s purpose is to create a healthy place in coastal Alabama to live, work and play. The coalition has focused on health, wellness and lifestyle activities, walkability issues and bicycle safety. The proceeds from the Good Life Ride are used to help created the Bicycle Safety Campaign, purchase “Share the Road” bicycle safety vests and update the Alabama State driver’s license manual. Changes to the manual included an expanded and improved section on sharing the road with people bicycles and the manual’s “Signs and Road Markings” chapter was also updated to include the “3 feet minimum” sign, “cyclists may use full lane” sign and the sharrow road markings.
