James Claude Smith, born Nov. 2, 1920 in Laurel, Mississippi to Claude and Alma Harrison Smith, passed from this life on Nov. 19, 2017 at the age of 97. He was a lifelong resident of Summerdale, Alabama.

He leaves his wife of 75 years, Leila Mae Younce Smith; and four sons, Lester (Elaine), Foley, Alabama, Herb (Sue), Molino, Florida, Tommy (Jo), Gulf Shores, Alabama and Mike (Debbie) Bay Minette; 12 grandchildren, Keith Smith (Jaime), Kim Smith Webster (Will), Jill Smith Young (Brett), Leigh Smith Fauber (Scott), Tara Smith, Rusty Smith (Tara), Eric Smith (Kristen), Ian Smith, Shannon Smith McIntosh (Adam), Michael Smith (Valerie), Jason Smith( Melissa), Kevin Smith (Kim); 26 great-grandchildren, Grayson, Kailey, Britton and Caroline Webster, Abby, Lydia and Rachel Smith, Olivia and Eliza Young, Nathan and Noa Fauber, Cody Smith, Austin Smith, Clay Smith and Ty Smith, Drake McIntosh, Audrey McIntosh and Lexi McIntosh, Leiren Norwood and Lauren Norwood, Maddy Smith, Trey Smith. Gunner Smith, Collins Smith, Briley Smith and Briley's twin brother, Colt, who is in Heaven; great-great-grandchildren, Tristen Parrish and Leionna Parrish. James Claude Smith is survived by two brothers, Clifford Smith (Helen), Daphne, Alabama and Henry Malec (Dawn), Daphne, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Franklin Malec, Charles Malec, Paul Malec and Bobby Malec.

Services for James Claude Smith were held at the Summerdale Church of Christ Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017.

Burial was in Pine Rest Cemetery in Foley.
