Julya Ann Fincher Carter passed away on May 6, 2018 at her beloved home in Spanish Fort following repeated pneumonia and a decades-long struggle with rheumatoid arthritis.

She is survived by her husband, Warner Ray Carter; their children, Greg Carter (Paulette), Steve Carter (Mary) and Jana Watterson (Eric); grandchildren, Clint, Daniel, Michael, Emily, Gaines, Reed, Drew and Ivy; her sister, Gwen Tuthill; and niece, Lisa Chaffman (Jim); and many other relatives and friends.

Known to her friends as Ann, she was born to Gaines and Gladys (Breed) Fincher on Feb. 12, 1933 in Woodland, Alabama. She and Ray were married on Aug. 30, 1953 in Lanett, Alabama.

She graduated from Lanett High School in 1951, and from Harrison-Draughon School of Commerce, Atlanta, Georgia, in 1953.

More deeply than words could ever express, Ann loved, cherished and delighted in her family. She so loved her life as wife, mother and grandmother.

In the days before her passing, she spoke of how blessed she had been, and that she could not have asked for more in life. Her family was, and will be always, deeply blessed by her love, by their deep and everlasting love for her and by the faith in God which guided her throughout her life.

She will be remembered with this love foremost in the minds and hearts of family and friends, while recalling the beautiful flowers and perfume of sweet olive in her well-tended garden, and the wonderful tastes of her homemade cornbread and sweet tea.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2018 at East Pointe Baptist Church in Spanish Fort.

The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
