Daphne head coach’s organization and Target sponsor shop-a-thon for youth

DAPHNE, Ala. – Daphne High head coach and athletic director Kenny King along with his nonprofit organization and the Daphne Target store sponsored a Christmas shopping spree for elementary and middle school-aged children. King, who grew up on the Eastern Shore and graduated from DHS said the organization (Kenny Kings Charities) was created in 2003 to help youth in local communities so they would not have to endure the struggles that he did at that age.

“Each year this event allows me the opportunity to give back to my community and uplift the youth in my area,” he said. “It is heartwarming to see their smiles and joy as they pick out their Christmas gifts. I am proud to state that KKC supplies youth social enhancement series, athletic opportunities (football, cheerleading, and track), a health and nutrition initiative, (the) Tackling Reading program, ACT Prep Courses

and many other programs and scholarships for male and female first-through-12th graders throughout the communities of Baldwin County, Alabama and Maricopa County, Arizona.”

On Sunday, Dec. 22, each child received a free Christmas shopping spree in the Daphne Target store.

“This year, we hosted our sixth Christmas Shop-A-Thon in association with the Daphne Target and their manager Jeff Scoggin, King added. “Our KKC Board and sponsors selected 25 elementary/middle school children in the Daphne community.”

Each child was paired with their favorite Daphne Trojans football players and their own personal shopper and set free inside of Target to make their Christmas dreams a reality.

King said the event would not have been possible without the help of many.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of our Daphne principals Dana Bottoms, Mark Doherty, Jonathan Ellis, Tiffany Irby and John Comer.

“A special thanks to our sponsors Kenny King Charities, Mrs. Benita Battle, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Wells, Mitch Kitchens State Farm, Dr. Matthews and AOSP, Mr. John Quinnelly and Valor Steel, Mr. George Williams, Daphne Trojans Football, Jeff (Scoggin) and the entire Daphne Target family."

Kenny Kings Charities, “KKC”, is a 501 C-3 nonprofit.
