Larry Joe Barnickle passed away on July 25, 2018 at his home in Daphne, Alabama following a brief illness at the age of 69.

Larry was born in 1948, Lexington, Tennessee. His parents were the late Jo Nell (Austin) Barnickle and Lafayette (Jr.) Barnickle. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wayne Barnickle; and sister, Kerry Jane Barnickle.

He is survived by four children, son, Landon (Spring) Barnickle of California; daughter, Ashley (Patrick) Dowd of Alabama; daughter, Megan (Ryan) Newby of Smyrna, Tennessee; and son, Austin Barnickle of Smyrna, Tennessee; along with six grandchildren, Gawain, McKenzie, Patrick, Connor, Shaun and Colin. He also leaves a sister, Terry (Lee) Smith and husband, Willie Smith of Parsons, Tennessee; and niece, Cindy (Smith) Whitsitt and husband, Jerry of Jackson, Tennessee. Larry had many special people in his life, including the Werner family (Jeff, Anna, Jeffrey and Brandon) of Daphne, Alabama.

Larry received a bachelor of science, a master of education, an educational specialist in administration and supervision, in addition to an educational specialist in curriculum and instruction, all from Middle Tennessee State University.

He served as a teacher for many years at Smyrna, Tennessee and the University School of Jackson, Jackson, Tennessee. He was also a part time real estate agent.

Larry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Nurnberg, Germany, working as a pharmacist.

He was named Teacher of the Year for Rutherford County; Chemistry Teacher of the Year for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

He was a member of the National Science Teachers Association and Tennessee Science Teachers Association.

Following retirement, Larry enjoyed deep sea fishing and operating an antique booth at Southern Antiques and Accents, Fairhope, Alabama with Memorie Martinez and many friends.

At Larry's request, there was no public service. The family held a private burial at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Parsons, Tennessee.
