Little Free Library at South Baldwin Literacy Council

FOLEY – The South Baldwin Literacy Council has recently added a brand-new Little Free Library in front of their facility, offering the opportunity to the community to trade and pick up books with no cost to them. The addition comes after the Council applied for a Little Free Library Grant, and the team has already painted their little library and stocked it with books for children and adults.

“People can get books, they can give books, it’s open to the public,” said South Baldwin Literacy Council Director Tammy Vaughn. “We’re trying to help people who are underserved and maybe don’t have a library card. Now they can just walk across the street and grab a book. And then they can either keep the book, donate a book in its place, or they can read the book and bring it back. It’s up to them, they do not have to return the books.”

Vaughn regularly stocks the library, checking it each morning when she arrives to see what they’re in need of.

The Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that looks to inspire a love of reading in people of all ages, as well as building communities through the act of exchanging books. They are now found in approximately 73 countries. The organization aspires to make sure children and adults have easy access to books whenever they want to read, and also provide book access in areas where books are scarce.

For those looking to donate books, trade books, or find a new book to read, the South Baldwin Literacy Council is located at 21441 Highway 98, Foley. You can call them at 251-943-7323 for more information, or visit their website at www.southbaldwinliteracycouncil.com.
