MARLOW, Alabama — A Loxley man is in jail after Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies located a possible pipe bomb inside his vehicle during a routing traffic stop in Marlow last week.
Robert Paul Boykin, 46, of Loxley, is in jail on a $25,000 bond following his arrest on April 29. He was charged with possession of a destructive device/bacteria or biological weapon.
Lt. Clint Cadenhead with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department Investigations Command in Robertsdale said Boykin was arrested following a routing traffic stock April 29 on a 1995 Nissan truck for a traffic violation in the Marlow community of Baldwin County.
“During the stop, deputies developed reasonable suspicion and asked for consent to search the vehicle,” Cadenhead said. During the search, deputies located a possible pipe bomb inside the vehicle.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency bomb squad units responded to the scene and took possession of the device. Further investigation determined the powder inside the device contained an energetic powder. The device will be sent to a federal lab for further analysis.
Boykin has a long history of bookings on the Baldwin County Corrections Center website dating back to 1996, primarily on drug-related charges.
