Mark your calendars: Fine Arts Holiday Gala

Posted

What started as an idea last year will come to fruition Dec. 6, as the Foley High School fine arts department will perform at the first Fine Arts Holiday Gala.

The art department’s showcase will take place at the Foley Civic Center; doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the performances will begin at 6 p.m.

“Where we live in the world, everything’s about sports; everything’s about football, and there are so many fantastic arts things going on around campus,” said D.D. Andersen, teacher at Foley High School and Foley Theatre Company director. “We decided we just wanted to sort of brag about ourselves to the community.”

Choir, theatre, band and visual arts will all have a display or performance during the holiday gala.

When the doors open, attendees can view the visual art department’s works of art. The Foley High School Jazz Band and Trumpet Ensemble will perform. After these performances, there will be a show from the Foley High School Choir and drama department. The theatre performances will be by seniors in the Foley Theatre Company. Foley High School Assistant Principal Shane Tucker will be the emcee for the night … and there will be a guest appearance from Elvis.

Tickets are $10, and are available through any of Foley High’s art departments by calling 251-943-2221. Although this is a community event, tickets are limited to 400.

With the purchase of a ticket, patrons will receive a raffle ticket for door prizes given away throughout the evening. All proceeds from the Fine Arts Holiday Gala will go directly to all four art departments at Foley High School.

“We are really excited about it because it’s a way for us to brag about our students and raise a little money for the departments,” said Andersen.

Start your holidays off right and enjoy Christmas music and performances from local students.
