Mary Agnes Cooper, age 94, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born July 15, 1923 in Macon County. She was one of four children born to Blanch and Henry Claude Segrest.

She had two brothers who preceded her in death and one surviving sister, Hatti Toney, who resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Andrew J. Cooper, who passed away Dec. 19, 2015.

Mary Agnes is survived by a daughter, Ann Copper Scott, who resided with Mary Agnes in Gulf Shores; and a son, David (Tammy) Cooper, who resides in Bay Minette, Alabama. Surviving grandchildren are Amanda (Cory) LeDoux of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Lindsey (Chris) Ward of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Whitney Scott of Gulf Shores, Alabama, David (Tracy) Cooper of Elberta, Alabama, James Michael (Sarah) Cooper of Gulf Shores, Alabama. One granddaughter, Andrea Cooper, is deceased. Mary Agnes also has seven great-grandchildren, Bryce Scott, Bella and Ave Ward, Andrew and Kaityln Cooper, Trinity and Cameron Cooper.

Mary Agnes and Andrew moved to Gulf Shores in 1973 from Troy, Alabama. After arriving in Gulf Shores, Mary Agnes became very involved in community organizations and activities.

Mary Agnes worked at the State Bank of the Gulf from 1973 to 1984 as a receptionist and secretary. In 1991 she worked at the Child Development Center at the First Baptist Church until she retired. Over the years she also baked many delicious cakes for weddings, anniversaries and other special occasions.

She had many good friends, and loved to play dominos and spend time at gatherings with her Sunday school class. She was a big influence on her family and others and kept everyone together.

She was a special lady, very proper and quiet. She was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother.

Mary Agnes, along with her husband, were members of The First Baptist Church for many years.

Funeral services will be held at Gulf Shores Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday the 27th, with visitation one hour prior.

There will be a second service on Sunday, Jan. 28 at Pleasant Springs Baptist Church in Tuskegee, Alabama.
