Mary Bertagnolli Sandell

Mary Bertagnolli Sandell, a lifelong resident of Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away at home, Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 94.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Irene Bertagnolli; her first husband, William Schuler; her second husband, James Sandell; her daughter, Cheryl McKenzie; her daughter-in-law, Patsy Schuler; her brother, Oliver Bertagnolli; and her granddaughter, Connie Trosclair.

She is survived by her daughters, Juanita (Donald) Gregorius, Pamela (Rusty) Sanders; and her son, William "Bill" Schuler; her sisters, Evelyn Sanchez, Elsa Brown and Irene Duff; her brothers, Joseph (Catherine) Bertagnolli and Robert (Dotti) Bertagnolli; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews; and her devoted dog, Coco.

She was a lifelong parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Her favorite hobby was making dolls and doll clothes. She was an avid collector of antiques and dolls, and a member for many years of The Greater Mobile Doll Club.

She enjoyed telling stories of growing up and the many changes she saw throughout her life.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church.

Mary's family will receive friends at the church from 10 until 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in Belforest Catholic Cemetery.

Her family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Robert Percy, the staff of Thomas Home Health and Alabama Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Building Fund.
